Course Description

This non-credit course is designed to provide you with a foundation for teaching online. ITO is a 5 week (mostly) asynchronous course, with only three synchronous sessions built in. At the end of this course you will have started to fill in this backward planning template with a plan for your online course that includes module learning objectives, assessment strategies and learning materials . Your decisions will be guided by the Understanding by Design Instructional design framework and considerations for online teaching .

Breakdown of synchronous sessions

The first session is a virtual meet and greet, where we get to see each other and share information about our experiences with online teaching and learning.

All synchronous sessions are scheduled through the Zoom Meetings link in the course navigation menu.

Session 2 is scheduled for Feb 9th between 3 - 4pm. It is offered halfway through the course to allow you to share and discuss your progress, provide peer feedback to allow for refinement and improvement of your work to date. It has been intentionally designed as an opportunity for you to connect and interact because it is easy to feel isolated in an online environment.

  • Other opportunities to connect with members of the course are provided through the discussion board titled "I need help". This discussion board is set up as a place to pose your questions and get feedback from your peers.
  • Opportunities for you to connect with the instructor are through drop-in sessions, scheduled through the Zoom Meetings link in the course navigation menu. Drop-in sessions are scheduled every Thursday from 3 -4pm. You are encouraged to drop in to ask for help or feedback, or just pop in for a chat.

Session 3 is the last session where we will get together to hear your reflections.
